What is a Parish Plan?
Parish Plans are action plans developed by local communities. They set out a vision for the future of the community and list what actions will need to take place to achieve this vision. A Parish Plan is not just limited to planning policy but can cover every aspect of the framework supporting a community. West Berkshire Council (WBC) put significant weight in Parish Plans because they represent a clear statement of public consultation. The Basildon Parish Plan can be downloaded here (PDF, 2MB).
The Basildon Parish Plan Questionnaire
In 2006, a Parish Plan Questionnaire was distributed to every house in the parish. Thank you to everyone for completing them, and for the hard work by the Questionnaire volunteers. The number of questionnaires returned was extremely high and they required an enormous effort to process but, the high response rate does ensure that we have a very representative survey of peoples opinions and priorities. Developing Action Plans
Action Groups were formed to take responsibility for identifying practical steps to address the concerns and opportunities raised by the Parish Plan Questionnaire. The Action Plans which were developed are included in the Basildon Parish Plan document.
The Action Groups for Basildon are:
- Planning & Development
- Natural Environment (Countryside & Wildlife Etc.)
- Transport & Getting Around (Roads & Traffic, Etc.)
- Social Environment (Village Amenities, Law & Order, Etc.)
Implementation of the Action Items
Following formal adoption by West Berkshire Council on 23rd April 2008, the Parish Plan is now in the implementation phase. Some of this is carried out by the action groups but responsibility for implemention often lies with external authorities such as the Parish Council in partnership with West Berkshire Council or other relevant authorities. It is an ongoing process and additional action items will be added as appropriate.
