Basildon Barbarians Football Club

The Basildon Barbarians are a newly established Football Club using the Rec in Upper Basildon as their home ground. They will be playing in the Reading and District Sunday League and would love to see villagers supporting them at their home matches. The season starts in September but they will be playing some pre-season friendly matches against other local teams in August. For more information, Click here.

The Orion Star Count

The Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE), working alongside the British Astronomical Association’s Campaign for Dark Skies (CfDS), is once again running their Star Count week from 31st January until 6th February this year. This week has been chosen as there will be no moon in the sky to interfere with the count. If there are adverse weather conditions this week, the count will be rerun from Monday 28th February until 6th March, 2011. For more information, Click here.

Phone Boxes in Upper Basildon

Due to lack of use, BT are no longer maintaining the two red phone boxes in Upper Basildon. They have been acquired by the Parish Council for a nominal sum who are now looking for suggestions as to possible alternative uses for them. This could be anything from growing strawberries to showcasing local artists. One village even opened a mini library in their old phone box. If you have any ideas, please contact the Parish Council parishcouncil@basildon-berks.net.
