Basildon Online Residents' Association

The Online Residents' Association is being formed as an online community to co-ordinate efforts resisting inappropriate planning applications in Basildon. Recent experience has shown the need to protect the rural character of the village from overdevelopment. This is not saying that we are trying to prevent all development or object to every new application. Once a site has been bought for development it is inevitable that something will get built there so we are just trying to ensure that what results is appropriate for Basildon and sustainable for the community.

Keeping you informed

All pending local planning applications are displayed on the Basildon Planning Applications Page which is regularly updated. There is an Online Residents' Association Mailing List to which you can subscribe. Notification of significant new applications will be posted to this list.

All Subscribers can also post to the list with any questions or information about applications however all postings are moderated to ensure no abusive or unsubstantiated comments are made. Note: When posting, you must use the email account which you registered otherwise the posting will be rejected.

Influencing Planning Application Decisions

You can either support or object to planning applications by writing to:

Head of Planning,
West Berkshire Council Offices,
Market Street,
Newbury,
RG14 5LD or

email: planapps@westberks.gov.uk

If you do choose to object to an application, it is worth having a basic understanding of the Planning Process. It is also worth noting that separate letters from different members of the same household count as separate objections so long as each letter is not just a duplication of the others. If the planning officers at West Berkshire Council want to approve the application but they have received more than 10 letters of objection, the application goes before a Planning Committee. Although the committee may still decide to grant the application, it does give residents and the Parish Council a chance to speak at an open meeting.
