Basildon Oil Buying Club
Over five years ago, an oil buying syndicate was formed in the nearby village of Upton. The aim of the syndicate is to pool orders for oil, and put it out to tender across a number of oil companies. The syndicate now has over 150 members for whom it coordinates the buying and delivery of over 100,000 litres of oil at a time.
With this buying power, savings have been significant – on average, members are saving between 1.5 and 2.0 pence per litre (£30 - £40 on a typical 2,000 litre delivery). There is no minimum order level, so whether a member orders 500 or 5,000 litres through the syndicate, the price remains the same. Members are billed by and pay the oil company directly in the usual way. An annual administration charge of £5.00 is made to cover the coordinator’s costs, but the savings more than outweigh this.
Usually, deliveries are coordinated for January, March, May, August and November but you need to get in touch before the start of that month to be included.
Colin Batchelor, the scheme’s coordinator, has kindly agreed to extend the syndicate to include the Basildon villages. If you would like more information on the scheme or are interested in joining, please contact Colin on 0118 984 1126 after 7:30 p.m. or by e-mail at colin.batchelor@eggconnect.net.
